Linguistic diversity, language reclamation and reflexive research paradigms. Mission and projects of the Center for Research and Practice in Cultural Continuity
- Room: 2.014
- Tme: 11.30, 4th April
In this talk I will present our Center’s mission and activities that combine academic work with engaged, self-reflective research and practice. We work with Indigenous and ethnic minority communities, seeking ways to channel research results into successful language reclamation projects and the self-empowerment of individuals and groups. Our multidisciplinary team composed of external and community-internal researches explores theoretical and practical approaches to decolonizing, participatory research paradigms and ways of implementing those methodologies in the areas of history, linguistics and language revitalization. Over the last several years of our research and closely related socially-engaged activities outside the academy, we have developed an open-minded posture toward traditional/Indigenous ways of generating and processing knowledge as a way to significantly enrich mainstream methodology and research practices. I will also discuss epistemological and ethical challenges relating to our work.
