We also invited dr Katarzyna Wojtylak who works as a post-doc in IDUB II 3.2 and II 3.7 projects. She delivered a lecture on “Linguistic Research Skills – experiences from the Amazon”.

Abstract: How does one proceed when engaging with people at their field site without a common language? In this talk, I will introduce the idea of fieldwork conducted in areas where non‐written and lesser‐known languages are spoken, in particular those of the Amazon. In addition to discussing the practical methods for language learning and linguistic documentation, I will also focus on the importance of speaking local languages when conducting research in remote areas of the world.
